Privacy Policy for GPS Workout Recorder

Effective Date: October 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how GPS Workout Recorder (displayed as GPS Workouts on your device) handles information in connection with the mobile application. It is intended to comply with applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR, where applicable.

Data Controller

The data controller for GPS Workout Recorder is:

Developer: Evgeny Dmitriev
Email: support@robofly.org

What the App Does

GPS Workout Recorder records outdoor bike rides, runs and walks on your iPhone. You can save completed workouts to Apple Health or export a final GPX file to Files. No account is required.

Data Handled by the App

Depending on the features you use, the app may handle the following types of data:

Local Storage

GPS Workout Recorder is designed as a local-first app. Recording, recovery and diagnostic files are stored on your device. Exported files and workouts saved to Apple Health are managed through Files and Health; Apple-managed backup and sync depend on your Apple settings. Internal recovery and diagnostic folders are excluded from device backup.

The developer does not operate a dedicated backend for storing your workout routes, raw location history, GPX files, or Health data.

Location Permissions

GPS Workout Recorder requests When In Use location access when you start a workout and requires Precise Location for route, speed and distance recording. It does not request Always location authorization. Location updates start only when you explicitly start or resume recording, stop on Pause or Finish, and continue while the screen is locked or another app is open during active recording. The introduction does not request permissions. You can change location access and Precise Location in iOS Settings. Without the required access, GPS Workout Recorder does not start or resume recording.

Apple Health

GPS Workout Recorder requests write access when you tap Done with Save to Apple Health enabled after finishing a workout. It requests permission for Workouts, Workout Routes and the distance type for your activity (cycling distance for Bike; walking and running distance for Run and Walk). Only permissions that have not yet been decided are requested; denied permissions are not repeatedly requested. It does not read data from Apple Health. You can decline individual permissions. Review explains when distance or GPS route will not be saved; Workouts permission is required to save the workout itself. You can change permissions in Apple Health and return without closing finished review. You can turn off Save to Apple Health and still export GPX without granting Health access. If Workouts access is denied while Save to Apple Health is enabled, Done is unavailable until you change access or turn off Health saving. Settings controls the default choices; changes in finished review apply only to that workout.

Health, fitness, workout, and route data is used only to provide app functionality requested by the user. It is not used for advertising, marketing, cross-app tracking, or unrelated data mining.

Workouts saved to Apple Health are stored and managed by Apple Health on your device and, depending on your Apple settings, may be synced by Apple through your Apple account. For more information about Apple’s privacy practices, please refer to Apple’s Privacy Policy:

Exports and Sharing

The app does not automatically upload your location, route, Health, or workout data to the developer’s servers.

When Save GPX to Files is enabled, the final GPX is copied to the app’s Exports folder in Files when you tap Done, after successful Health saving if selected, or directly if Health saving is off. Permission checks alone do not export it. You control whether to export and whether to share it from Files. For recordings with no duration or no recorded distance, both saving options are unavailable and Done discards the recording without Health saving or GPX export. Exported files may contain sensitive route, timestamp, location, and workout information.

Diagnostics and Support Packages

GPS Workout Recorder may create local diagnostic files on your device to support recovery, troubleshooting, and quality improvement. These diagnostic files may include sensitive information such as precise routes, timestamps, workout metadata, raw GPX files, final GPX files, debug JSON files, and recovery checkpoints.

The public Release interface does not expose raw diagnostic files or support-package creation. In development builds, support packages can be created explicitly and may be shared separately by the person testing the app; they are never sent automatically to the developer.

Analytics and Platform Services

The current app does not include third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs and does not automatically send usage events or diagnostic files to the developer. It uses Apple platform services, including Core Location, Apple Health and Files. Apple-managed backup, sync and system diagnostics are governed by your Apple settings and Apple’s privacy practices.

If you contact support by email, the developer receives the information you choose to send and uses it to respond to your request. Avoid sending sensitive route or Health data unless it is needed for your support request.

Data Selling and Tracking

The developer does not sell your personal data. The app is not designed to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies for advertising purposes.

Legal Bases for Processing

Where applicable under GDPR or UK GDPR, GPS Workout Recorder relies on the following legal bases:

Data Retention and Deletion

Local app data remains on your device until it is deleted by you, removed by the app’s cleanup behavior, or removed when the app is deleted. Exported GPX files and support packages remain wherever you choose to save or share them until you delete them.

Workouts saved to Apple Health can be managed or deleted in the Health app. Internal diagnostic sessions and orphaned recovery folders are subject to rolling cleanup. Local files do not provide a browsable workout history, and finished review is not restored after the app is force-quit.

Your Privacy Rights

If you are located in the EU, EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with applicable privacy rights, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or data portability where applicable.

Because workout and route data is primarily stored locally on your device or in Apple Health, many privacy choices can be exercised directly through the app, Files, iOS Settings, or the Health app. If you have questions about your rights, you may contact the developer at support@robofly.org.

Children’s Privacy

GPS Workout Recorder is not directed to children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect directly identifying personal information from children.

Medical Disclaimer

GPS Workout Recorder is not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, emergency services, or medical recommendations. Workout and route information may be approximate and should not be used for medical or emergency purposes.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
